The Temple – Caring for God’s People in Body and Spirit

At Emmanuel Outreach Center, we believe wholeheartedly in the words of Scripture: “Do you not know that your bodies are temples of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God? You are not your own; you were bought at a price. Therefore honor God with your bodies.” (1 Corinthians 6:19-20).

When the Apostle Paul reminds us that our bodies are temples, he is telling us that each life is sacred, precious, and worthy of care. Yet for many in our own community, financial hardship can make even basic personal care difficult to manage. That’s why The Temple Program exists — a ministry of compassion, dignity, and hope.

What The Temple Offers

Through The Temple, we provide those in need with essential personal hygiene items for men, women, and children. Our services include:

  • Shampoo and conditioner
  • Soap and body wash
  • Toothpaste and toothbrushes
  • Laundry detergent
  • Deodorant
  • Feminine hygiene supplies for menstrual needs
  • Adult incontinence products (“Depends”) for seniors

For those who are unhoused or facing crises, Comfort Care Backpacks are available — complete care packs lovingly prepared with:

  • Personal hygiene items
  • Canned, ready-to-eat food
  • Weather support items (hats, gloves, socks, blankets as available)
  • Flashlights and batteries
  • Basic first aid supplies
  • Bibles or devotional booklets
  • Handwritten notes of encouragement

The Temple also provides weather resistant blankets wool blankets and gently used bedding.

Why This Ministry Matters

Financial challenges, sudden job loss, medical bills, and housing instability all contribute to the difficulty many experience in affording daily necessities. Without access to items as basic as soap, laundry detergent, or weather-appropriate clothing, individuals may face increased hardship, health risks, and emotional strain.

By meeting these needs, The Temple not only helps restore health and cleanliness — it renews dignity. It reminds each person that they are valued, seen, and beloved by God. A simple comfort item, a small flashlight, a warm blanket, or a heartfelt note can be a powerful sign of hope.

A Shared Calling

In caring for the body, we honor the temple God has given us. In caring for one another, we fulfill Christ’s command to love our neighbor. Through The Temple ministry, Emmanuel Outreach Center seeks to embody that love in tangible ways — bringing warmth where there is cold, dignity where there is struggle, and hope where there is despair.

Together, we can be the hands and feet of Jesus — carrying His compassion into every corner of our community.
